Over the years we''ve seen people of the western countries coming to Africa and taking what the African's consider as part of their culture and using it in their art galleries and museum. for example, a bow awas used by the san people for hunting which was part of their culture but the british museam have use this as the work of art. this concern me,as an artist i'm convinced that anyrhing that has to do with other people's culture or religion should n't be classified as art. the reason being that whatever it is that they arte using in their culture or religion serves a certain perpose and is considered imperative for their survival. As I said that in art a person is usually expressing his own thought and skills typically in visual forms. with regards to the African bows, the san people were n't expressing anything, instead they were making what could help them in
huntingand fight enemies.

huntingand fight enemies.
If the western people consider this as art, than frankly we have different definations of art, and there is no respect of other people's culture. art work can be used for decoration not to serve people's needs. think of the african jar

this was used to drink "umqombothi" ( african tradditional alcohol). but most books have classified it as art. If this wa the case then african people would have used it for decoration or to express them selves in a more visual form.
Aficans should stop letting other people tell their story. I think us as african's can tell it better than modigliani and picasso. this goes for the filmmakers, graffitti artists, musicians, poets etc.
